The Office of the City Solicitor furnishes legal advice to the mayor, the City Council, and to all officers, departments, boards and commissions concerning matters arising in connection with the exercise of their official duties, supervises, directs and controls the law work of this City. The Office of the City Solicitor represents the City and the City’s interests in all litigation by or against the City. This office prepares and approves contracts, bonds and other instruments in which the City is concerned, and approves surety bonds required to be given for the protection of the City. In addition, this office prosecutes any violation or alleged violation with the City of the Statutes of the State or the ordinances of the City at the request of the Police Department. Ordinances are prepared for introduction into the Council, upon request of the Council or of any Councilman, or the Mayor, and it shall prepare for the consideration of the Council, comprehensive revisions and codifications of all General Ordinances of the City which are then in effect as required by the Charter.
