City Hall Arts Gallery to Showcase Work from Jacqueline M. Walsh School for the Arts

PAWTUCKET – The Pawtucket Advisory Commission on Arts and Culture has partnered with the Jacqueline M. Walsh School for the Performing and Visual Arts (JMW) to host the “Spring Art Showcase” featuring paintings, block printing, and sculpture art by students. The opening reception is scheduled for Thursday, May 11, 2017 from 4:00-6:00pm at City Hall (137 Roosevelt Avenue, 2nd floor).

“There is tremendous artistic talent amongst our local students. Events like this are fun but also important to the ongoing career development of our future community leaders,” said Commission Chairwoman Miriam Plitt.

“The dedicated work of the JMW students is impressive,” said Jay Rosa, Pawtucket’s Senior Planner and Commission Liaison. “This event is a celebration of the artistic talent and civic leadership of our students.

The Spring Art Showcase will also feature artwork from VSA Arts Rhode Island. VSA is a statewide arts and education organization dedicated to providing opportunities for children and adults with disabilities to actively participate in the arts. This exhibit will run through July and is free and open to the public.

Earlier this year JMW students collaborated with Tunstall Americas and the Pawtucket Senior Center to complete the art exhibit “Conversations in Metal” that promoted intergenerational partnerships in creating aluminum sculptures. JMW students are also assisting the Department of Public Works with a free rain barrel program that is intended to reduce water runoff during major rain events to preserve the quality of rivers throughout the city.
