Yard Waste to be Paused through April

UPDATE: As of April 27, 2020, yard waste collection has now resumed.

Pawtucket – Due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, the City of Pawtucket’s Department of Public Works (DPW) has announced that the collection of yard waste will be paused beginning Monday, April 6th through the month of April. DPW is working alongside WCI, the vendor, in order to follow the guidelines of the Rhode Island Department of Health to reduce staff and minimize the risks of COVID-19.

“This is not a decision that we take lightly as we always want to provide residents with services,” said DPW Director Eric Earls. “However, this is a time where we need to focus on being healthy and safe. While we anticipate that these services will be paused through April, we are committed to working with the vendor to bring them back as soon as we can.”

Residents can still bring yard waste to the Grotto Avenue Transfer Station from Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Curbside mattress pickup has also been postponed. The collection of bulky items will also continue as normal.

Trash collection and recycling will continue as scheduled. “Trash collection is an absolutely vital service,” said Earls. “We need to take all steps to ensure that this essential service is not interrupted in any way.”

Residents should continue to check the City website and social media for more updates related to yard waste and bulky collection as well as COVID-19 related matters. For more information about COVID-19, please visit health.ri.gov/covid or call the R.I. Department of Health at 401-222-8022.
