Tolman High School’s Rob D’Arezzo Earns Pawtucket Teacher of the Year Honors

In front of the Tolman High School student body assembled in the auditorium, Rob D’Arezzo, Director of Tolman’s Marketing and Management Academy, sat amongst students and peers listening to Principal Savastano discuss end of the year procedures and summer school programs.

What D’Arezzo did not know at the time, was that Principal Savastano was stalling time for D’Arezzo’s mom and Superintendent DiCenso to arrive so that he could be presented with Pawtucket’s 2016 Teacher of the Year Award. Superintendent DiCenso brought three of D’Arezzo’s students onto the stage, each of which shared their personal experiences that highlighted his status as a tremendous educator worthy of his award. The students spoke of the way he consistently designs lessons that are engaging and reflect 21st century skills and practices.

"Robert D'Arezzo is a highly dedicated, devoted and competent teacher who's commitment and passion for students is evident in all he does at Tolman High School.  His students have been recognized at the local, state and national level. The Pawtucket School Department is proud to have Mr. D'Arezzo as our Teacher of the Year," stated Pawtucket School Superintendent Patti DiCenso.

Principal Savastano also spoke of D’Arezzo’s capacity both in and out of the classroom. “He takes great pride in ensuring the success of every single one of his students and has demonstrated a willingness to do whatever it takes to help his students succeed,” said Savastano. “On most days Mr. D’Arezzo is the first teacher to arrive and the last to leave the building at night,” continued Savastano.

Clearly not expecting to be named Teacher of the Year, D’Arezzo credited the many dedicated teachers, faculty and administrators that he relies on for support within the building. Mr. D’Arezzo also spoke of his love for the job and love for the students he gets to work with on a daily basis. He was then greeted on stage by his mother and nephew as they posed for pictures with his students, the Superintendent and Pawtucket Mayor Donald R. Grebien.

“We are all very proud of the work that Mr. D’Arezzo has done for his students here at Tolman,” said Mayor Grebien. “Hearing the admiration expressed by his students today certainly shows that he is deserving of the recognition he received today.”
