Pawtucket Fire Department Supplements Fleet with New Emergency Vehicles

PAWTUCKET – The Pawtucket Fire Department has supplemented the City’s emergency fleet with a new Rescue unit and Pumper engine. The new vehicles, which were delivered to the City on Wednesday, October 31, will replace the older Engine 1 and Rescue 2. Both older vehicles will be retained as part of the reserve fleet.

“The addition of the new engine company and rescue unit is another step in providing our firefighters with the needed equipment that allows the department to protect the residents of the City of Pawtucket,” said Fire Chief William J. Sisson.

The new Engine 1 replaces a 1994 pumper unit at the Columbus Avenue Fire Station (Station 3). Rescue 2 will be replacing a 2013 rescue at the Cottage Street Fire Station (Station 4) and was purchased in part thanks to the Rhode Island Department of Health. Rescue 2 includes a state-of-the-art solar panel that powers the instruments in the back of the ambulance.

Fire Chief Sisson was joined by Assistant Chief Jay McLaughlin and Fire Fighter Lance Dumont whom he noted were the ones who led the efforts for the new acquisitions. The Rescue will be in use within two weeks and the pumper will be added to the fleet by the end of November after it receives a couple of final additions and is painted.
