Pawtucket City Calendar Provides Key Info to City Residents

COVID-19 Presents Its Challenges to Unique Photo Contest

Pawtucket – It is hot off the press. Mayor Donald R. Grebien announces that the official 2021 City Calendar is now available at Pawtucket City Hall, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, and various municipal sites throughout the City. Due to the huge demand, 8,000 copies will be made available to the public.

“Just like previous years, our phones were ringing off the hook with people asking if the City’s 2021 calendar had arrived from the printer,” says Mayor Grebien. “It’s considered to be a must-have resource for Pawtucket residents.”

“As we have seen for two decades, generous sponsors once again allow us to present the City’s residents with this calendar,” says Grebien. “The calendar’s pages contain listings of meeting dates and times of the City Council, boards and commissions as well as recycling, trash pickup and street sweeping dates. Contact information for City departments and Pawtucket-elected officials is also included in the calendar.”

“Throughout the calendar pages you will find the winning photos, reflecting this year’s theme, Hiding in Plain Sight,” says Mayor Grebien. These unique and colorful photos were selected by professional photographers from entries submitted to the 22nd Annual City of Pawtucket Photo Contest, a participating event of the City’s Pawtucket Arts Festival. Flora S. Curtis Elementary School fifth-grader Avery Morales’s photo, received the Mayor’s Choice Award and was selected for the cover.

“Navigating the photo contest this year during the COVID-19 pandemic certainly presented its share of challenges as we attempted to offer a quality photo contest with the same spirit and enthusiasm as previous years,” says Photo Contest Organizer, Patricia S. Zacks, owner of The Camera Werks.

“Each year it has been an annual ritual to see the hundreds of photo submissions on display in the Visitors Center Gallery every September, from which 5 local professional photographers choose their favorite photos that ultimately make up the City of Pawtucket Photo Calendar,” says Zacks.

This year, all that changed. The announcement was made via a video on the City’s website. The announcement and all image submissions can be seen at www.pawtucketri.com/arts/annual-photo-contest.

The widely anticipated 2021 City of Pawtucket calendar can be picked up at Pawtucket City Hall and other sites, including the Pawtucket Library, the Leon A. Mathieu Senior Center, the Pawtucket Water Supply Board, the Department of Public Works and the Parks & Recreation office at Slater Memorial Park.
