BODY WORKS LICENSE REQUIRED

On October 20, 2016, the Pawtucket City Council passed a new ordinance which regulates the licensing of body works establishments in the city.

The ordinance requires that any establishment that offers body works services, defined as body rubs, body stimulations, manipulation or conditioning of any part or parts of the body, spa services, and spa treatments, by any person not licensed under title 23 of the Rhode Island General Laws, MUST be licensed by the city of Pawtucket.

If your establishment does not provide any of the services listed above, or if ALL personnel who provide these services to patrons at your establishment are licensed by the State under Title 23, or if the ordinance specifically excludes your establishment from the city licensing requirement, then you do NOT need to be licensed by the city.

In order to apply for a body works license, you must provide the following:

1. Application for License

2. Certificate of Zoning Compliance

3. $125 License Fee (Renewal will be in June 2017 with a $250 fee)

4. Filing Fees - $100 for Fire Inspection, $50 for Certificate of Zoning Compliance (if not currently on record) and $5 per person for police background checks

5. Corporation Certificate (if applicable)

6. Proof that city tangible taxes are paid.

You must bring these documents, in person, to the City Clerk’s Office, City Hall, third floor, 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket, RI, to begin the process.

To get an application or if you have any questions, please contact this office at 401 728-0500, Ext. 225.
