What are the criteria to apply for the positions of police officer and fire fighter?
The following requirements are the criteria in order to apply for the positions of police officer and fire fighter:

Police Requirements

• Minimum 18 years of age
• United States Citizen
• High School Diploma/GED
• Valid driver’s License
• College Degree or 30 Credits (official transcripts)
• Proof of One (1) Year of Active Military Service – DD-214 in lieu of college required

Fire Requirements

• Minimum 18 years of age
• United States Citizen
• High School Diploma/GED
• Valid driver’s License
• EMT License or proof of “current” enrollment in RI EMT Class or EMT Course Completion
• Certificate for Firefighters Physical Performance
  (performed by RI Association of Fire Chiefs)

What newspapers does the City use when advertising available positions?
The City of Pawtucket advertises available positions in the Providence Sunday Journal paper. Positions are also advertised on the City of Pawtucket website as well as the netWorkri website.

Do City departments post their own positions?
No. All postings come through the Personnel office.

How often do we post positions?
Positions are posted as they become vacant and are able to be offered to the public.

Are there license requirements to work within the Public Works Department?
Yes. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
